The Etruscan civilization flourished in central Italy from the 9th century BCE until progressive assimilation into Roman society beginning in the late 4th century BCE as a result of the Roman–Etruscan Wars until being fully incorporated in the newly established Roman Empire in 27 BCE. At their peak, elite Etruscan families grew very rich through trade with the Celtic world to the North and the Greeks to the South, fostering a rich artistic and cultural tradition.
